Dr. Alexia Tsakiris - Certified Pet Food Therapist - Nationwide
Dr. Alexia Tsakiris, a Jersey Shore native, earned her B.S. from Cook College, Rutgers University, in 2000 before obtaining her BVetMed from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2005. She began her career as a small animal veterinarian specializing in internal medicine. In 2008, an acupuncture lecture at a veterinary conference ignited her passion for holistic care. She pursued veterinary acupuncture at Chi University in Florida, earning her Certificate of Veterinary Acupuncture in 2009. Expanding her expertise, she studied herbal medicine through the College of Integrative Veterinary Therapies (CIVT), receiving her Certificate of Veterinary Herbal Medicine (Western) in 2014 and a Graduate Diploma of Veterinary Western Herbal Medicine (GDipVWHM) in 2017. By 2018, she joined CIVT as an adjunct professor.
Her dedication to herbal medicine led her to complete David Winston’s Clinical Herbalist Program (2014-2016), achieving Registered Herbalist status with the American Herbalist Guild—the highest accreditation in human herbal medicine. Believing in the power of nutrition, she earned a food therapy certification from Chi Institute in 2019. In 2023, she became a Fellow of the American College of Veterinary Botanical Medicine.
Since 2016, Dr. Alexia has focused exclusively on holistic veterinary medicine, incorporating acupuncture, herbal medicine, food therapy, laser treatments, nutraceuticals, and bodywork—including spinal manipulation, Reiki, and massage—at Naturopawthic Veterinary Wellness Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. She lectures nationally and internationally on holistic veterinary care.
Following the loss of her beloved 14.5-year-old dog, Margarita, she explored grief deeply and developed a three-part series, Grief for Pet Parents. In 2020, she launched Naturopawthic Courses, an educational platform empowering pet owners to take an active role in their pet’s health.
Passionate about supporting veterinarians, she founded Project Kefi and Vet in Balance in 2019, offering coaching, workshops, and retreats to help vets rediscover their passion. She also consults veterinary practices on integrating holistic medicine. In 2021, she established the Women’s Veterinary Collective to create a supportive, sustainable profession for women veterinarians.
Beyond veterinary medicine, Dr. Alexia is a certified 30-hour Radiant Child Yoga teacher and volunteers at her sons’ school. In 2020, she completed her 200-hour yoga teacher training with Ohana Rising Yoga School. She resides in New Jersey with her two sons and their dog, Lulu.
