Animals have always fascinated me. Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, we had the usual variety of household pets: dogs, cats, parakeets. I loved them as family and sought their company when I was troubled. I was lucky to have a mother who loved animals and would take us to the Brookfield Zoo, the Natural History Museum and the Aquarium in Chicago, so I became acquainted with many species that were foreign to my everyday life.
The one animal that never failed to excite me was the horse. When I was 16, I bought my first horse – foregoing a month long trip to Europe with my brother and his wife. The horse was the centerpiece of my life – racing Standardbred Harness Horses — until I started my family in the late 70’s.
When we moved from Illinois to Colorado in 1993, it seemed only natural to have horses on our rural acreage. As horses always teach, I learned much from them. In January 2000 my 3 year old filly, Jasmine, suffered a bout of cold-induced laminitis. This started me on my journey to alternative healing methods.
With diet, exercise and proper trim, Jasmine improved, but every year from late summer through winter she was prone to ‘ouchy’ feet if not full-blown bouts of laminitis. Her Insulin-Resistance, IR, or Metabolic Syndrome caused the imbalances in her body.
I started studying Traditional Chinese Medicine in 2010 with Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Institute and found answers to help her condition. I became certified in Equine Animal Acupressure in 2011 and Small Animal Acupressure in 2012.
As with life, the journey of energy healing is never ending. The animals have much to teach me, and I strive to help them live with less illness and pain and more health, strength and peace.
