Help Your Horse Thrive - Equine Hanna Somatics - Howell, MI
Do you want your horse to have a smooth gait, feel pain-free, and be happier than ever? Imagine your ride feeling flawless again (or maybe for the first time!), and your horse’s behavior melting away into that happy, level-headed partner of your dreams.
Are you looking for a natural, effective way to improve your horse's well-being?
I'm a certified Equine Hanna Somatics Educator (C.EHSE) passionate about helping horses achieve greater comfort, movement, and performance through this innovative approach. While I have worked with horses my whole life, I started working with EHS in January 2020, and finished my certification (a 3 year course) in May 2024. I am also a 3rd year veterinary medical student at MSU, becoming an integrative equine veterinarian upon my graduation in 2026. I have training in homeopathy and western herbs for animals as well.
EHS has given me the power to help horses recover from chronic injury, stop being cinchy/girthy, achieve symmetrical muscle strength, resolve lameness, and so much more! By working with the horse’s nervous system, I can help them reset their muscle tone back to the state nature intended, which benefits every joint and bone in the body, creating seemingly miraculous physical and mental results. They are results you can actually see. The best part though - it’s no miracle, it’s neuroscience in action!
What is Equine Hanna Somatics?
Equine Hanna Somatics (EHS) is a gentle, hands-on technique that helps horses release tension and discomfort held in their muscles and fascia. Similar to Hanna Somatics for humans, EHS focuses on the horse's sensory awareness to guide them in releasing chronic tension. In this way, it is NOT a form of bodywork, as the practitioner is not manipulating the horse. Instead, we work WITH the horse (not on them) to guide them through the movements on their own. This is the reason I chose to become an EHSE over any type of bodywork - it’s just better! It’s so gentle (thanks to the lack of manipulation), the horses absolutely love it, and the results are beyond anything I’ve ever seen with bodywork. It’s also why we are called EHS “educators”, because we are teaching the horse how to do the movements, not making them do them.
One of the best parts is that EHS sessions compound on each other, so that we’re not just starting from scratch with every new session. It’s not like going to the chiropractor and then 5 days later you need a whole new adjustment. Instead, each session builds upon the last as we work towards your goals. Some cases can even have drastic turn-arounds in just one session! Part of the beauty of this work too is that the benefits are endless, so continuing to work with your horse throughout their entire life will only lead to further improvement.
You can plan for sessions to be approximately 1 hour. Every horse is unique so there’s no way to put an exact time on any session. Each horse is different - some take more time, some take much less. After 1 hour I try to wrap it up so you can go on with your day. I will send you paperwork in advance, where you can list your concerns, and you can share any more details when we meet in person. I will likely have some more questions for you as well. This allows me to tailor the sessions to meet your horse’s individual needs.
Benefits of EHS for your horse:
Improved flexibility and range of motion
Reduced pain and discomfort
Enhanced athletic performance
Better posture and balance
Increased relaxation and well-being
Whether your horse is:
Struggling with performance issues
Exhibiting behavioral problems
Recovering from an injury
Or simply seeking greater comfort
EHS is a valuable tool in your horse's wellness toolbox!
I can help you:
Address specific concerns with your horse
Develop a personalized EHS plan
Guide you in incorporating EHS into your own horse care routine

As a full time medical student and a mom, I have limited availability, so please contact me to book an appointment. Also, having just completed my full certification, I am currently asking only for donations to cover my tuition and gas. As a suggestion, $80 for a session (not including drive time/mileage) is the normal going rate in the area. I am generally able to come to your horse if you’re within 1 hour of our house (in Howell). I look forward to meeting you and your horses! Please contact and book me on Petworks. Thank you.
