Our companion animals can provide us with such joy and connection. They are often our shadows, following us from room to room. Some encourage us to get outside and take on the world. Their eyes can make you feel seen in a way that is rare from other humans.

Because that bond is so special, tender, and constant, it is so no wonder that their death (or impending one, in the case of being given a shocking diagnosis) can also cause us such despair and loneliness.

Society does not recognize the importance of this special relationship, with most places not even letting you take off work or miss days of school. Friends and family may not understand how the loss is causing you such distress.

As your counselor, I will honor your companion animals with you, carrying their memory forward with you. And I will help you navigate this challenging time.
