Max Collignon and Lauren George, head trainers, are lifelong animal lovers with a natural affinity for working with dogs. Before transitioning into professional dog training and canine behavior consulting, Lauren honed her skills as a graphic and web designer for small businesses, while Max pursued a career as a research biologist, earning both an MS and PhD in ecology and behavior. The pair also spent over a decade working as dog sitters, gaining valuable hands-on experience with dogs of all breeds and temperaments.
Their passion for dog training began with MJ, their chow-husky-retriever mix. Raising MJ taught them the importance of trust and consistent training in creating a happy, well-adjusted dog. Through dedicated efforts, they helped MJ overcome fear-based aggression, master confident off-leash recall, and even dabble in scent detection and tracking for fun. This rewarding experience sparked their shared dedication to canine behavior and training.
After returning to their native New York, Lauren and Max decided to turn their love for dogs into full-time careers. In addition to dog sitting, they volunteered at local shelters, working with dogs to improve their adoptability and long-term success in forever homes. When the opportunity to join Canine Trade Group arose, they embraced it wholeheartedly, completing its rigorous Professional Dog Trainer’s Course. This intensive program included a deep dive into canine learning theories and hands-on training to address complex behavioral issues such as aggression, anxiety, and reactivity.
Committed to continuous education, Lauren and Max have completed advanced programs like the Aggression in Dogs Master Course by Michael Shikashio, covering various forms of canine aggression, and the Dog Meets Baby Course by Dominika Knossalla-Pado, which focuses on introducing dogs to babies and toddlers. They also integrate innovative training methods, including play-based reinforcements like tug and ball games, to enhance engagement and learning.
In their free time, they train Bear, their energetic malinois-setter-pittie mix, in agility and scent work, and enjoy hiking and playing with their high-drive pup. These activities enrich their understanding of building fulfilling relationships with dogs.
As professional trainers and behavior consultants, Lauren and Max aim to help pet parents develop strong, rewarding bonds with their dogs. Their approach emphasizes respect for the unique dynamics between each dog and owner while achieving practical results for behavioral challenges. Their ultimate goal is to create safe, harmonious households where dogs and their families thrive together.
