How did you hone your craft?

I've been immersed in animal behavior full-time since moving to James Island in 2016, particularly the humane treatment of “problem” dogs. I specialize in shelter behavior and animal welfare. I work with issues ranging from puppy socialization and enrichment, to fear, anxiety, reactivity, and aggression. My work & volunteer experience include veterinary medicine, daycare & boarding, animal rescue & welfare, shelter behavior & enrichment, emergency response deployment, youth programs, and working dogs. I am committed to continuing education & improvement, attending training programs, seminars, workshops, & conferences. I obtained independent, standardized certification, and am a member of multiple professional organizations with a variety of voluntary credentials. In 2019, I left the behavior department an open-admission shelter & ventured into the world of small business & entrepreneurship as Owner/Operator of Bright Mind Canine Services.

What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?

Remember, we call dogs man's best friend! Treat your relationship with just as much care and intention, and the possibilities are endless.

What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!

I love watching two different species learning to speak each other's languages.
