Blueprints Dog Training - Certified Dog Trainer - Dixon, CA
Blueprints Dog Training provides training for pet dogs and their families that focuses on everyone's comfort. My training approach is focused on creating more open communication between your dog and your family while addressing your dog's needs. I take care to approach training from the least invasive methods, using a background in the science of learning and dog behavior to address each dog as an individual. I understand what it's like to live with dogs who have behavior challenges like fear and frustration. I've worked with dogs professionally for over 10 years within their homes, within a boarding facility and within shelters. I have experience training shelter staff and dog handlers within boarding environments. I pride myself on staying up to date with the data on dog's learning and training. I regularly seek to further my education and improve my skillset so that I can better support my clients. I work hard to help meet your dog where they are and help address the function of their behavior rather than just tackle the more obvious side effects. I specialize in working with dog's who exhibit reactivity and have an interest in working with dogs who display more extreme fear and frustration.
TL:DR
Dog training for the whole family, focused on using least intrusive and minimally aversive methods to help behaviorally challenged dogs. Commonly referred to as a Positive Reinforcement, Force Free, LIMA-based trainer.

How did you hone your craft?
I began as a dog-sitter and dog walker, then began working for a Dog Boarding and Daycare facility. I worked in that facility for 8+ years where I led off leash hikes, ran playgroups, assessed behavior, trained staff and apprenticed in training classes. I had the luxury of assisting a local trainer in an internship at my county shelter. During my time at the county shelter I became an evaluator then was certified as a dog trainer in 2016 through the CCPDT. I have remained on at the shelter since 2015 leading volunteer training, training staff and helping with the creation of their enrichment program.
What tip would you give pet parents for working with animals that you've learned as a pro?
Do your best to reframe your thoughts from what your dog is doing wrong, to what it is you'd like them to do. Adjust your environment so that they're more likely to be successful and then focus on teaching them the skills they need to do better. Management tools like baby gates, exercise pens, crates and leashes can make a big difference in helping your dog be successful. Think of your dog as your younger teammate. Our dogs have the cognitive abilities of a 2-3 year old child. While they aren't children, it's important to understand that they may not understand or "know" all that we expect them to. Adjust your communication and help them get it right!
What is one thing you want pet parents to know about you? It can be whatev-fur you'd like!
I'm a huge animal lover and have three pups of my own, two Pit Bull Terriers and a Doberman. I've also owned my fair share of cats, rodents, fish and reptiles - I love the opportunity to train with different species whenever I get the chance!
